Landing Pages & the Quality Score

Google Slap Non-Sense..

That has got to be the most rediculous description of an update that I have ever heard marketers refer to. But hey, it sells. And probably wish I would have thought of it first. ;)

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s the recent Landing Page Quality Score changes that Google rolled out that had many online communities buzzing with people that lost thousands and even 100s of thousands of revenue.

Thankfully, I wasn’t affected. I had tremors and a few campaigns went inactive on me, but as a whole, I’m whole.

There are a many reasons I believe contributed to why myself and my methods have paid off and weren’t affected by this update. The top 3 I would say are:

  1. I’ve always had a very strong focus on the quality of the merchants I choose and am attracted to well laid out websites with good copy.
  2. I’m well diversified. I have a portfolio of 100s of merchants and thousands of products and services.
  3. I have a specific way that I construct my ads and ad groups that produce relevant results for the person searching.

There were many spouting especially when the update first came out that Google was targeting certain types of sites.. Adsense Sites, Sales Pages, Squeeze Pages..

This couldn’t be more misleading. It’s not about the ‘kind’ of site, but many other factors.. I was fortunate in that I am in so many different markets and am promoting so many different merchants. I was able to study how my account reacted and easily determine many of the things that Google doesn’t like.

I have written an entire guide regarding this update that is now included with the Campaign Blasts Package. Otherwise, I will most likely touch on the subject of landing pages over time in this blog…
